PHYLLIS MCDONALD Peacefully on Thursday June 2, 2011 at the Portage General Hospital, Phyllis McDonald passed away at the age of 89 years. Phyllis was born on August 2, 1921 at Acadia Valley, Alberta, moving with her parents William and Ellen McDonald to Portage la Prairie at a young age. Phyllis completed her schooling in Portage and began working at Portage Mutual in 1942. Her dedicated service continued until her retirement after 44 years in 1986. Phyllis lived with and cared for her parents until their passing in 1971. After their passing she resided in the home of her good friend Mildred McElrea. She remained there until a fall in March 2011 which required her to be hospitalized. Phyllis was a caring, compassionate lady who was loved by all. Her faith and love for God were an inspiration to many. Phyllis enjoyed a number of trips during her retirement. The last one being a trip to Sweden and England in 1998 with her life time friend Barbara Robbins. She will be lovingly remembered by her cousins Grace Riviere of Winnipeg, Helen Templeton of Ontario, and numerous dear friends in Canada and abroad. Special thanks to the staff of Home Care who made it possible for Phyllis to remain in her own home with her beloved Scampy as long as possible. Phyllis appreciated your care and everyone will remember her expression thank-you very much for coming . Thank-you also to Dr. Finney and the staff at Portage General Hospital for their care of Phyllis these last few months. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Herman Prior Centre in Portage la Prairie (40 Royal Rd. North). There will be viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to attend the committal service are invited to meet at the cemetery at 9:15 a.m. A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel 857-4021 A message can be left in the on-line guest book at www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com
